Why Hate Mouse?

Why Hate Mouse?
There are people who really like Mouse. There are people who really hate Mouse. And then there are those who couldn't care less.
The thing is, a lot of the people who hate Mouse seem to be long-time ReBoot watchers. The newer fans have asked me why Mouse gets picked on, and it's sort of hard to explain why... Part of it has to do with the fact that there wasn't as wide a range of characters to choose your least favorite from in the beginning. The rest is pretty much just difference of opinion. If you really don't see why anyone would hate/like Mouse, I've tried to sum up the major arguments for each side below. Read across, not down.
(And I'm not saying which side I'm really taking, 'cause I'll pretty much mock any character that moves.)

Mouse is a dynamic, independent woman. And she'll kiss anything that's breathing.

Mouse is funny and smart. She named her ship "Ship."

I thought that was cute! It wasn't.

Fine, forget smart. She's a babe! Oh, yeah. I forgot how great she looks compared to all those flabby & flat-chested ReBoot women.

But she has that cool accent! Ugh! Don't even get me started on that! Her accent is so fake.

It's in a computer. The accents don't need to be like the real world. Besides, Turbo doesn't get so much flak for his bad accent. Proportionate to screen time, Turbo gets plenty of flak. And it all comes down to Mouse's accent being just plain annoying.

Mouse's hair is neat, though. Yeah, if you're the kind of person who likes to stare into the sun...

Her clothes are all Xena-ish in the 3rd season. And her 1st season outfit is probably the easiest to mimic in your own ReBoot costume! But plaid stretch pants? That's just wrong. And who wants to dress like Mouse, anyway?

She's got swords and a nifty ring! And Bob has Glitch, and Hex has masks, and Matrix has a gun and cyber-eye, and Phong has a drawer, and Dot has an organizer, and Frisket has a collar.

She picked up that poor scared little binome girl's teddy bear for her. She brought in the bomb that nearly destroyed the girl, the bear, AND the city.

The bomb thing was an accident. Get over it. No. If she's so smart, she should have thought to scan the device the guardians gave her.

She protected Mainframe with her "Mousetraps"! Those traps almost got the crew of the Saucy Mare killed.

Mouse was the one to get Megabyte sent to the Web. Some of us rather liked having a really good villian on the show. ("Daemon"? Please. It's no good unless she happens to sound like Tony Jay.)

She's probably got some cool and mysterious hacker backstory. Or she could just be some chick who likes breaking into things.

Mouse was the one who made Dot recognize her love for Bob. But back when Mouse first showed up (and before everyone and his cousin had seen the whole series), Mouse seemed like she'd be the most likely one to break Bob and Dot up before they even got together. I'm still bitter about that.

Oh, that was a long time ago. Get over it. No.

Gavin Blair (co-creator of ReBoot) named Mouse as his favorite character! Yeah, but Mr. Blair also allowed such character gems as Backup to be allowed into the series. Enough said?

But Mouse can't be that bad if she used to date Bob. Ack! Stop, you're burning my ears with your words! The series offered no definitive proof that Bob and Mouse were ever a couple. You're evil for even mentioning it.

She's not even in the show that much. What's the big deal? Why waste your energy hating her? Look, I wasted a month (back when the series aired for the first time) wondering what this mysterious new "Mouse" character was going to be like. I was horribly disappointed by her when she actually showed up, and I'd like that month of my life back.

I said GET OVER IT, you big baby! And I said NO!

Whatever, Shugah. Don't make me hurt you.

The short answer: Just go make fun of Matrix, kids. I hear that's all the rage now. ;)
