Beanie Null Eye Mask
Making a beanie null was one of the earliest (maybe the first?) ReBoot craft projects I ever did. This project is a variation on the classic-- the null isn't filled quite as much, so it works as a relaxing eye mask thingy.

YOU'LL NEED:

  • the eye mask pattern
  • soft, smooth, null-ish fabric
  • about 2/3 cup rice
  • funnel
  • scissors
  • basic sewing supplies

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Print out the pattern, and enlarge it to a size that's appropriate for your face. Remember that the actual eye mask comes out a little smaller than the pattern. (To give you an idea of what you're aiming for: the copy of the pattern I used was about 10 ½" from end to end.)

2. Transfer two copies of the pattern onto your fabric. Make one of those copies in reverse if your fabric is only printed on one side. Cut both fabric pieces out along the line that's solid in the pattern.

3. Match your null-shaped pieces of fabric up with the right sides together. Pin them together.

4. Sew along the line that's dashed in the pattern. A sewing machine will probably make things faster, if you know how to use one. Short, neat stitches done by hand will also work. Remember not to sew up the part that's marked "leave open" on the pattern.

5. Turn the null right side out. Funnel in about 2/3 cup of rice, using more or less as needed. You want the null to be floppy and flat, not full and fat.

6. Stitch closed the part of the null you left open before. (Short stitches again-- you don't want rice leaking out all over!)

Tip: If you want this to be an aromatherapy eye mask, you can mix a drop or two of essential oil in with the rice. But essential oils can be harmful if you don't know what you're doing, so... just make sure you know what you're doing. :)

Rice makes it nice!

And there you have it! A nice beanie null eye mask. I had non-Booters stealing mine from me, so this might even be a good gift to make when you're trying to convert friends.
